The Energy Efficiency Fund is a step up to European standards

May 31, 2016 Vice Prime Minister - Minister for Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine Gennady Zubko presented to the international partners and donors the Concept and Plan for the creation of the Energy Efficiency Fund.

According to him, this is a significant step towards European standards of energy production, supply and consumption, improving the standard of living of citizens and, ultimately, Ukraine’s energy independence. “A new market for energy efficiency measures will be created, a system of certification of energy efficiency of buildings will be introduced and the number of buildings close to zero energy consumption will be increased,” Gennady Zubko emphasized. He believes the Fund will become a powerful vehicle for attracting investment from international organizations for infrastructure modernization projects.

The management structure of the Energy Efficiency Fund will allow for an independent policy and transparent decision-making mechanism. In particular, the Coordinating Committee will be composed of government representatives, donors and MFIs.

Gennady Zubko noted that the Fund will be launched after the end of the heating season 2016/17. By this time, the necessary legislative field and expenditures from the State Budget should be provided. According to the Vice Prime Minister, the Fund will achieve certain results already in its first years of operation, and significant ones by 2021.
