The first event under this initiative was a seminar on Contemporary Urban Management, held on December 15 in Kyiv. In total, nearly 40 Ukrainian cities participated in the event. Other issues addressed were sustainable energy development of municipalities.
It is important to emphasize the urgent importance and urgency of solving the problem of unsustainable energy consumption for the majority of municipalities, which was confirmed by the interested discussion of the round table participants. After all, the development of urban energy efficiency is no longer a tribute to fashion, but rather a real path to sustainable development, a dramatic improvement of buildings and the urban environment, a reduction in energy consumption and costs. Moreover, now the state and international partners of Ukraine are offering assistance and funding for financing energy-efficient projects in cities.
To take advantage of these opportunities is, first and foremost, a task for the authorities and local self-government.
Vyacheslav Lisovik told the participants about the ways of implementing energy efficiency in cities. He also noted the need to create municipal energy management, a key element of the city’s governance system, which would attract internal and external resources, engage local businesses and residents, and harness the potential of energy efficiency for the benefit of communities. Creating municipal energy management, and first of all in budgetary institutions, will start the process of movement towards sustainable development, will promote the well-being of people and the city.
At the end of the seminar, the participants thanked the organizers for the interesting and useful program of the event, because the knowledge and experience of experts, attracted by the Club of Mayors, will help the newly elected leaders in solving important issues of city management and their further development.
